Ian Murphy KC
It is with deep sadness that Circuit learned of the untimely death of one of its greats: Ian Murphy KC, who died at home last night.
Called to the Bar in 1972, Ian became a pupil at 34 Park Place where he took a tenancy the following year.
A formidable junior, he became an Assistant Recorder on Circuit in 1986; a Recorder in 1990; and took silk in 1992.
Not long after 34 Park Place moved to 9 Park Place (where the set had been established) Ian took over the reins from Philip Rees and remained the Head of Chambers for 10 years.
More latterly he moved to Farrar's Building in London but maintained his relationships with 9 Park Place and Circuit, continuing to practice regularly in the courts of South Wales, as well as further afield.
In retirement, Ian remained loyal to Circuit and was always a welcome guest at Circuit events.
We send our sincerest condolences to Penny, his beloved wife, his daughters and family.
